The red winter fruit on this Barberry shrub was encrusted in an icy glaze from Tuesday's freezing rain that past through the area. Warmer-than-expected temperatures precluded the larger ice storm that was forecast.
Owners of these cars had the same idea about avoiding as much ice as possible by putting pieces of cardboard on their windshields. Ice build-up continued Tuesday morning on some surfaces but above-freezing temperatures kept the streets wet only from a steady rain.
Dave Anderson and his wife, Janet, of Olathe, flip through old yearbooks while looking for a photo of Dave. He was part of the first first-grade class to attend Nieman Elemenatry School when it opened in 1954. The school invited former students and teachers back Thursday for a final look before the old building is demolished and students move into the new school built behind it.
