Shawnee Rotary Club members returned last week from a week-long trip to Chacala, Mexico, to build a medical clinic. Those on the trip were Dennis and Sherry Barry, Scott and Beverly Shane, Miranda Ritter, Kevin Tubbesing and Matt Young.
Freshman pitcher Adam Burns was on fire in the tournament final game, retiring nine batters in a row.
St. James first-baseman Doug Leikam was hit in the head by the ball while trying to scoop a short throw early in the championship game Saturday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The bad hop gave Leikam a minor wound to the forehead, but he stayed in the game. Spring Hill won the Butch Foster Memorial Baseball Classic, 1-0, over St. James.
A horse is paraded around the arena at Campbell's Sale Barn near Linwood, Kan., site of a weekly horse auction for the past 22 years. For a variety of reasons, the bottom has fallen out of the horse market.
