The Shawnee Downtown Partnership presents the 4th annual Scarecrow Festival Saturday. Activities from pumpkin painting to pie baking contest are planned. Many shops and businesses have their scarecrows on display, like this pumpkin head mortician outside Amos Funeral Home. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
