SMNW volleyball outlasts Leavenworth in five sets to win season opener

Senior Hannah Black led the Shawnee Mission Northwest volleyball team with 17 kills in the Cougars' season-opening five-set win over Leavenworth on Tuesday. Shawnee Mission Northwest coach Susan Specht was proud of how Black rose to the occasion in the Cougars' first match, and has been more impressed with how the Washburn commit and co-captain Rylee Garrett have helped several varsity newcomers prepare for a step up in competition.
