A Run For Mercy April 23, 2006
Over 1,000 runners and walkers help raise money for the Oceans of Mercy Childrens Village in South Africa with a 5K and 10k run/walk Saturday.
Schaun Colin holds 28-month old Luvo Grace Rutledge, one of the few children from the village in South Africa who has been adopted. Colin is the founder of Oceans of Mercy.
Dana Allen with Jazzercise leads runners through a workout routine to warm up before the start of the race.
Before the race began, Jessica Pham of Shawnee got a massage from Dale Wheeler (left) and Jeff Higgins with The Massage Professionals of Lenexa.
Before the start of Saturday's race, Mike Ockleston (left) was introduced to the crowd by Schaun Colin. Ockleston did a rooster crow to start the runners, a tradition brought over from the Commrades Marathon in South Africa.

Talking points
How often do you go to the library?
“I almost never go there at all — only with my wife, Kim. She checks out, I’d say, at least three books a week. The kids go with her, and she teaches them how to find things.”
