Shawnee schools at state track: Day Two June 9, 2009
Shawnee Mission North senior Chelsea Kiefer placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at the Class 6A state track meet.
Mill Valley senior Max Carroll finished fourth in the javelin in Class 5A at the Kansas Track and Field State Championships.
Shawnee Mission Northwest junior Erica Brand unleashes a throw in the Class 6A discus competition at the Kansas Track and Field State Championships in Wichita. Brand won the event with a distance of 151 feet, 10 inches, for her first state title. She also finished second at state in the shot put.
Maranatha Academy junior Bethany Zarda earned a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run in Class 2A at the Kansas Track and Field State Championships.

Shawnee Mission North senior Storm Simons leans across the finish line and captures her second straight 300-meter hurdles state title in Class 6A at the Kansas Track and Field State Championships. Simons also won the state title in the 400, placed seventh in the 200 and helped the 1,600 relay team to a fourth-place finish. Teammate Chelsea Kiefer, left, placed third in the race and also was a medalist in four events.
Shawnee Mission Northwest senior Alex Reynolds competes in the Class 6A 1,600-meter relay at the Kansas Track and Field State Championships. Reynolds helped SMNW place sixth in the race.

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?
I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
