Run for Mercy planned for April 21
January 2, 2007
The Fourth Annual Run for Mercy, benefiting the non-profit organization Oceans of Mercy, will be held April 21.
Last year's event brought more than 1,000 runners and participants, and this year, it will surely continue to grow as it raises funds for the children of South Africa. As in the first three years, the run will begin at 8 a.m. at Mill Valley High School.
Oceans of Mercy was founded by Schaun and Becky Colin, owners of the Country Club Café in Shawnee. The organization is creating a children's village in South Africa, a multi-purpose facility established to house, feed, clothe, teach and provide hope for children affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Sponsorships are available for this year's event at multiple levels. Sponsorships start at $250 for a bronze level and increase to $2,500 for platinum level. Title sponsorships also are available for the post-run festival, water stations, and each mile marker on the course.
For more information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Charlie Vogt, Sarah Phillips or Kathleen McInnis at (913) 322-7606 or e-mail mcinnis@mid-americaphysicians.com. For more information about Oceans of Mercy and the Run for Mercy, visit www.oceansofmercy.com.
Talking points
What advice do you have for this year’s graduating high school seniors?
“Go back to school. They need to get an education and I mean post-bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s degree is the new high school diploma.”
