Students from across northeast Kansas endured a mixture of 23 science events during the regional Science Olympiad on Saturday at Johnson County Community College. St. James Academy, with 21 medals, dominated the competition.

Bluejacket Flint Elementary students Kaija Dewsbury, Carlee Mendoza and Kori Martiny run laps in the school’s gym as part of the Marathon Club. Over the next few months, students in the club will run a full marathon, culminating at the Olathe Kids Marathon in April.

Olivia Schroeder, a first-grader at Sacred Heart, came up with the idea to have her Daisy troop help the victims of the Haitian earthquake. Olivia’s mother, Melissa, contacted Heart to Heart International, which collected care kits put together by the Daisy troop to be flown to earthquake victims.

Do you think the state should do more to help businesses near K-7 and Johnson Drive as an interchange is constructed?

Given the time the state has had to prepare, I don’t think completing the access road before starting/ closing Johnson Drive is an unreasonable request from these businesses or those of us who patronize them.
